Live Gamer to Launch Player-to-Player Exchanges for Acclaim Games, GoPets® and IAC's InstantAction.com
Publishers First to Leverage Company's Upgraded Platform for Real-Money-Trading
NEW YORK, (Nov. 20, 2008) - Live Gamer (www.livegamer.com), the $24 million venture-backed developer of the world's premiere publisher-supported virtual marketplace, today announced Acclaim Games, GoPets and IAC's Instant Action.com will begin launching player-to-player virtual marketplaces for the real-money-trading (RMT) of virtual goods. The announcement coincides with Live Gamer's unveiling of its newly upgraded Live Gamer Exchange™ platform, the most advanced, safe and secure platform for RMT of characters, coin and items.
"The new marketplaces announced today showcase multi-genre capability, scalability and trading that complements the player experience. RMT when done right - so that it's built to service a range of publishers and game play formats - becomes a core component to the publisher's creative and business models," said Andrew Schneider, Live Gamer president and co-founder.
GoPets will be the first to enable the upgraded Live Gamer Exchange with a closed beta starting immediately. It will be followed by December beta releases of several games from IAC's InstantAction.com, including Fallen Empire: Legions, Rokkit Ball, Think Tanks and Marble Blast Online. The popular free-to-play MMO, 9Dragons from Acclaim, is slated to begin its beta in the first quarter of 2009.
"We're excited to fully realize our partnership with Live Gamer and offer our users the safest way to exchange virtual goods for real money online," said Erik Bethke, CEO of Symbiosis Games, developers of GoPets. "The added consumer confidence provided by the first truly legitimate online goods exchange is a tremendous asset to our international GoPets economy."
"We worked with Live Gamer early in our development process to create a marketplace for InstantAction.com that met the unique needs of our web-based game platform and business. As a result, we've been able to create trading opportunities for various game genres not normally associated with secondary market trading," said Andy Yang, general manager of InstantAction.com. "We look forward to growing the marketplace as our item strategy continues to evolve and ramp."
"A legitimate, safe and secure RMT marketplace not only enhances the satisfaction of our users, but also creates a virtuous cycle between the primary and secondary markets," said Howard Marks, Acclaim Games CEO. "From the beginning, Live Gamer understood the unique needs of a publisher launching titles with overseas developers and worked closely with both parties to make it happen."
New Marketplaces Debut on The Upgraded Live Gamer Exchange Platform
The new player-to-player marketplaces will debut on the upgraded Live Gamer Exchange platform, which first launched earlier this year enabling Sony Online Entertainment's (SOE) EverQuest II player-to-player trading. Live Gamer's internally developed, Wall Street-grade technology is designed to help publishers capitalize on the growing $2 billion virtual goods economy driven by consumer demand.Schneider added, "These upgrades reflect our experience operating a liquid marketplace with hundreds of thousands of dollars in transactions. We've been able to address opportunities in the live economy and incorporate those learnings - a benefit that only comes from operating 24/7 in the virtual economy. Continued innovation on behalf of our clients and their end-users will always be our focus."
Some of the upgraded features of the Live Gamer Exchange platform include both publisher- and consumer-facing enhancements:
- Expanded integration options for game developers supporting both REST and SOAP, coupled with a self-service developer testing and certification sandbox.
- Improved listing search capabilities and listing view screen layouts offering an immersive game-specific consumer experience.
- Improved multi-factor fraud screening engine, offering tiers of transaction scoring and clearing.
- Turnkey customer service with advanced CS workbench drastically improving issue resolution response time.
