INTRODUCTION

A fallen messenger on the road between Glenden Wood and Zaikhal! A messenger from Suntik Village! Where is it? What does it mean? An excellent mid-level quest for a patron with a vassal who’s an aspiring Axer!

WALKTHROUGH
Some know the sad tale of the fall of the Suntik Village. A quick run from Zaikhal 's Maitland portal (12.8N, 1.7W) is one of the reminders of that sad tragedy: the corpse of the Fallen Suntik Messenger (26.9N, 7.7E) felled by arrows. This brave messenger died attempting to reach Glenden Wood for help. One mystery remains, who shot the arrows? The Monougas aren't normally know for using bows or crossbows, hmm…
Here's the note you can find at this location (this is also a rare "Always Drop on Death" item).

This is a fairly straightforward quest. Head north from Zaikhal on the road, passing the woods in the valley, then up the hill into the desert. Along the way you will pass a group of hungry low-level drudges that are using "a torn note" (17.2N, 1.8E) to keep their fire lit (the note is a clue to the Sword of Lost Light quest.)

At the "Y"-intersection (the Lifestone is to the east), head north. As the road turns to the northeast, head up the mountainside to your right, following the directions in the Letter of Request to the passage that the Monouga use to reach the village. Or you can start from Zaikhal and use the New Suntik portal (12.7N, 1.6W) to arrive at the foot of the butte.

Suggested Strategy

There’s no real strategy for this quest however it is notable that Brutish Monoguas are known for dropping the coveted Ruined Amulet of the Pugilist, more intrepid hunters climb this butte to hunt the Brutish specifically in hopes of capturing this rare treasure. Once applied to the Sunstone Gauntlets, the resulting item is a pair of Pugilist’s Gauntlets.
Follow the ridgeline southeast past the single tent guarded by 3 Ferocious Monougas to the small village, or over the top of the ridge following the desert path markers. There you will find 15-20 Monougas, including several Brutish some Wily, Rough and Cruel and a lone Brutish guarding the axe itself, along with a random spawn of level 40-80 creatures.
Inside the building lying next to the forge, you will find the Acid Axe on the ground within finger's reach of a corpse who was probably its last owner. A Revitalization Well is just outside the door.
Described as, "A double-headed battle axe, dripping with vitriol. The handle appears to be made of ivory inlaid with tourmaline,” the Acid Axe is a beginner's weapon. Once thought to be good for those who could survive the spawns to acquire it, the recent upgrade to the creatures in this area has lessened the courage of Dereth’s most adventurous beginners.

It does 8-16 Acid damage, has a Speed of 60, and casts Defender II, Acid Protection Self III, Blood Drinker III, Swift Killer I, Heart Seeker III, Bludgeon Protection Self III. It has a difficulty of 0, and requires an Axe skill of 175 to use.

Based on the description, the beautiful ivory handle would be quite a prize for an Ivory Crafter.

Ivory Crafter tells you, "I am interested in various teeth, horns, shells, and skulls. For those I will reward you with useful items I make myself."

You give Ivory Crafter Acid Axe.

Ivory Crafter tells you, "What a lovely piece of work! Look at the inlay here! Thank you for bringing this to me."
You've earned 25,000 experience.

Ivory Crafter tells you, "I wish to study this in depth. Perhaps I can learn this level of work ..."
But you cannot give more than one per month:
You give Ivory Crafter Acid Axe.

Ivory Crafter tells you, "Thank you, but I have plenty to study for at least a month. Perhaps if you return later I will have time to examine this."
Please be warned: The Ivory Crafter does not give the Axe back if you turn it in and receive XP.

Keleris of Harvestgain writes: "I have also recently found the old version of the Acid Axe on a Mosswart Mucker in the Western portion of the swamp between Yanshi and Sawato."
