When the shadows rose again in the service of their dark master Bael'Zharon during the "Shadows of the Past" event, also uncovered were the methods of forging these weapons. While not as powerful as the original ones used by the Empyrean, one could still imbue them with additional power with the mystical stones found in newly discovered vaults left behind by the Yalain. This quest can be undertaken by nearly anyone. For best results however, it is recommended that you have a buffed weapon skill of at least 250 and access to someone with at least 250 alchemy skill. For more information, refer to Atlan's Treatise. To complete this quest your character should be able to acquire the motes dropped by various golems and journey to the Crater Village. This quest was the first quest in Asheron's Call to make extensive use the "distributed quest" model. As a result, the time for completion can vary considerably depending on your skill and luck.
Walkthrough
Collecting Pyreal Motes:
In order to forge your Atlan Weapon, pyreal motes are required. Pyreal Motes are trophies dropped by golems. The higher in level the golem is, the greater chance a mote is dropped. High level characters will want to hunt Diamond, Coral, Platinum, and Pyreal Golems which have a nice drop rate of motes. These are easily found through all of the Direlands and Aerlinthe. Medium level characters can also hunt Diamond, Obsidian, Magma, and Gold golems spread out and easily found throughout Northern Osteth. For lower level characters I recommend a few places; one of the three "Halls of Metos" portals located at 4.4 S, 0.6 W, 56 S, 89.2 W, and 61.4 S, 46.6 W which all have a nice spawn of Iron and Granite Golems; and the Hidden Dungeon(see the Cragstone's Armor and Axe writeup for directions there) has a nice spawn of Copper, Granite, and Iron Golems. All in all you will need 16 motes per weapon.
The motes are combined to create the ingot as follows(Note the Alchemy Skill Check when combining two bars. 250+ Skill recommended for Quality Ingots):
| 1) Combine 2 motes to make a sliver | |||||||||
| 2) Combine 2 slivers to make a nugget | |||||||||
| 3) Combine 2 nuggets to make a bar | |||||||||
| 4) Combine 2 bars to make an ingot | |||||||||
Once you have your completed ingot, you are ready to forge your atlan weapon. Off to the Crater Village.

Now its time to go fire up the grill and get this puppy forged. This can be done at the Famed Crater Village!
Crater Rim Passage (65.1N, 11.0E) outlined by light standards and guarded by Flares and Flammas; or fighting your way through the Crater Pathway (lower entrance at 60.5N, 15.7E) which contains Jibrit, Kilif and Zofrit Zephyrs, along with 4 Shadow Wisps to bar your passage. The latter 2 methods will require an arduous run from Holtburg to begin with, passing thru all manners of monsters commonly found in the wilds of Northern Osteth. There is a recently discovered portal just East of Yaraq at 18.6S, 6.8E. this Southern Mount Esper portal will drop you more than half way between Holtburg and the Crater, so you may want to use this route as a bit of a shortcut. Regardless of how you arrive at the Crater Village (64.8N, 13.6E), your next objective is purchasing an Atlan Glyph from the mage Silencia located atop the main tower.
There are 7 weapons that can be forged. These selections are limited to melee weapons only can can be found in the chart to the right.
Once you have purchased the appropriate glyph (at the outrageous price of 7,750p), you are ready to proceed with obtaining your weapon. The next step is apply the glyph to your ingot (referred to as stamping) in order to create an infused ingot. Both the quality of your base ingot, and your current weapon skill is used to determine the quality of infused ingot you will create. It is highly recommended that you have your weapon skill buffed above 260 when you apply the glyph in order to maximize your chances at the higher quality infused ingot, and subsequent weapon created from it. As with all skill checks, there is always a chance for failure and success regardless of your skill. The following charts shows the potential results of stamping.
| Stamping Results | ||
| Pyreal Ingot | Attempt Failed | Infused Pyreal Ingot |
| Attempt Succeeded | Excellent Infused Pyreal Ingot | |
| Quality Pyreal Ingot | Attempt Failed | |
| Attempt Succeeded | Superb Infused Pyreal Ingot | |
The final step in obtaining your Atlan weapon is giving (yes, GIVE) the infused ingot to Silencia's pet Magma golem (lovingly referred to as "Motey") for final forging. Don't worry about accidentally giving the infused ingot to another player, as the infused ingot is now No-Drop, No-Give (except to certain NPCs). Motey will in return, give you the final weapon. The quality of the ingot given (Excellent, Superb, etc...), directly correlates to the quality of the item that will be forged by the golem. The following chart shows the basic differences between the quality of each weapon. The Atlan Stones:
Regardless of the quality of Atlan weapon you obtain, you can further enhance the weapon by using one of a selection of Minor or Major Atlan Stones. Each of the Minor stones can be obtained from remote locations throughout Dereth, though all the Major stones are heavily guarded in secure Vaults. It is also possible to remove a stone from the weapon and replace it with a different stone through use of the Atlan Stone Tool found in the Artifex Vault. Each stone grants both beneficial spells to the weapon, the level dependent upon the weapon or the stone. The Minor Stones are much easier to obtain and may be the choice for the lower level warrior. Major and Minor Stones also alter the damage of the weapon to the appropriate elemental type. The following table explains the properties each stone grants.
