When two mysterious Empyrean temples were revealed in northern and southern Osteth, members of the Arcanum eagerly began studying their natures. Though initially the temples were only usable for modifying skills, Ciandra was able to fashion within the temples new gems that could be used to modify actual attributes. Due to potentially severe repercussions of such drastic changes on the human body, Ciandra limited use of these redistribution gems to once every two weeks and to those Level 25 and higher.

Preparations

The Attribute Redistribution quest is related to the Skill Sellback and Skill Specialization quests. Unlike them it requires you to visit both the Temple of Enlightenment and the Temple of Forgetfulness. Before you go to the temples, visit a mage shop and purchase a variety of herb components (you can do the quest with just one herb per temple, but its easier if you have a selection-see below).
The timers for these quests were updated Dec 2005 as follows:

Untrain
1st-4th gems: Instant
5th-8th gems: 1 week timer
9th-16th gems: 2 week timer
17th and above: 3 week timer

Specialization
1st-2nd gems: Instant
3rd-4th gems: 1 week timer
5th-8th gems: 2 week timer
9th and above: 3 week timer

Attribute
1st-18th: Instant
19th-36th gems: 1 week timer
37th and above: 2 week timer

To the Temple of Forgetfulness

To get to the Temple of Forgetfulness, go to the Cragstone Housing Portals (26.2N 46.3E) and take the Far Horizon Cottages settlement portal. This will drop you at (92.9N 2.4W). From there run southeast to the Temple of Forgetfulness (88.0N 0.0). The temple is a large Empyrean stone head. The path will take you through the region of Northern Osteth recommended for levels 60-80 so "dress" accordingly. However, the monsters that used to lurk near to the stone heads have decided to give the mysterious Empyrean artifact more distance.

Speak to the head by double-clicking on it. It will say:

Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "I guard the Temple of Forgetfulness. The Temple grants surcease for past mistakes."
Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "Bring me the essence of ***** and I will let you pass."
The guardian will ask for a random essence, naming the spellword for a specific herb. For example, if it asked for "Equin" you would give it mandrake. If you have only a limited selection of words, keep double-clicking on the guardian and it will change its request each time. Once it names an herb you have, give it to the guardian and it will teleport you inside the temple and also give you two pieces of lore: "The Temple of Forgetfulness" and " A Note from Ciandra." It will tell you:
The Guardian Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "Remember -- once you have chosen your path, follow it with conviction."

Inside the Temple of Forgetfulness

From the entrance room there are two exits to the north leading right and left. Both routes are identical and lead to the end. Pick right or left and follow the passage. There are three rooms in succession you will need to jump down into. The first contains two Copper Golems, the second two Iron Golems, and the third contains two Obsidian Golems and an Inner Sanctum portal. You do not need to kill the golems. Hop in the Inner Sanctum portal.

The central room of the Inner Sanctum has six "Gems of Lowering" resting atop stone pillars. Examine the gems to determine which attribute it corresponds to. They are in the order they appear on your character sheet from right to left.

Important: The timer is for picking up a gem. Pick up the wrong one and you may have to wait to try again.

Once you have your Lowering Gem you are ready to go to the Temple of Enlightenment.

To the Temple of Enlightenment

To get to the Temple of Enlightenment, go to the Qalaba'r Housing Portals (74.8S 17.8E) and take the Land Bridge Villas settlement portal. This will drop you at (87.1S 3.4E). The Temple of Enlightenment is near the north coast of the land bridge along the inland sea. It is nestled among cliffs so can be difficult to get to. One easy way is to run north from the Land Bridge Villas to roughly a pass at (84.3S 2.5E). This will lead you to the shore. Once on the shore head west to the Guardian. If you run too far west before heading north to reach the shore you will need a good jumping skill to get down to the guardian. You'll know you're at the right spot when you see the large stone Empyrean head. Along the way, you will pass through a region recommended for levels 40-60, so "dress" accordingly.

As with the Temple of Forgetfulness, Speak to the head by double-clicking on it. It will say:

Guardian of the Temple of Enlightenment tells you, "I guard the Temple of Enlightenment. The Temple grants the opportunity to repair sins of omission."

Guardian of the Temple of Enlightenment tells you, "Bring me the essence of ***** and I will let you pass."

Once again, give it the appropriate herb and it will teleport you within the temple and give you another copy of "A Note from Ciandra" as well as "The Temple of Enlightenment." It will tell you:

Guardian of the Temple of Enlightenment tells you, "Remember -- once you have chosen your path, follow it with conviction."

Inside the Temple of Enlightenment

The Temple of Enlightenment is organized the same as the Temple of Forgetfulness. Follow the same sets of corridors to the Inner Sanctum portal. The central room of the Inner Sanctum has six "Gems of Raising" resting atop stone pillars. Examine the gems to determine which attribute it corresponds to. They are in the order they appear on your character sheet from right to left.

Important: Thetimer is for picking up a gem. Pick up the wrong one and you may have to wait to try again.

Once you have your Raising Gem you are ready to complete the quest.

Combine the two gems by double-clicking on one gem and using it on the other. This will create a new gem. For example a "Focus to Self Gem." When you are ready to adjust your attributes, double click on the combined gem. A warning message will appear asking you to confirm your choice.

Keep in mind that you cannot raise any attribute so that its initial value would have been over 100 or lower it to be below 10. To check your initial stats, click on the "pack icon" near the upper right hand corner of your screen.

Thanks also to Thorfinn Sigurdssen, Clef, and Myrkul Cormaeril of MT for their fine patch tree submissions.
