When the Disciples of Blood broke away from the main Dericost faction, they took with them a significant device: A pedestal that could allow the citadels used by the Dericost to move while simultaneously placing a barrier around the structure preventing entry by anyone with Yalain blood. The leader of the Dericost, His Eternal Splendor, desired the device to insure his victory over his hated Yalain rivals, but even after destroying the Disciples, he was unable to find it.

Gaerlan, who eventually took control of the Dericost citadels, he also sought the device. He found it in the possession of a remnant of the Disciples. Using a thrall, Slithe Traddittor, he sent adventurers on a quest to obtain the means to recreate the "arcane pedestal". The plan succeeded, and soon Gaerlan was provided with the means to protect and navigate his citadel.
