| Summary: | Daughter of Candeth and Melanay Martine. |
Aritta is the young daughter of Candeth Martine and his wife Melanay. Most of the information we have on her comes from Martine's own Tale, in Chapter 5: Interlude.
It is clear from that text that Aritta was a very young girl when Martine travelled through the portal to Dereth, perhaps no more than five or six. She was Martine's only daughter, and he loved her very deeply.
The prolonged separation from wife and daughter affected Candeth Martine badly. In his Letter to Melanay, he writes that he feels he has betrayed them both. It also known that during his long insanity, sometimes the Virindi part of himself attempted to visualize as his daughter to gain his sympathy in some way.
However, the memory of Aritta proved key when Martine was confronted by Borelean Strathelar. Borelean and his bravery reminded him of his own child, and this rememberance was the first step towards regaining his humanity.
