During the Verdict Event, some Town Criers were proclaiming:

If you're into the arts and crafts thing, you might want to check out the pacifist group that's set up in Glenden Wood. They're a bit odd, but they seem generous to like-minded people. 
Apparently, they were just passing rumors, because the Artisans didn't receive their official Charter from the Arcanum until Harvestgain (the Festivus Event).  When they did, though, they set up their tent, and began talking to the locals.

Wils Morrem tells you, "The whistling wind, the wood, the biting metal ... these are the atoms of existence.  If you insist on putting motivations to our being, talk to Ms. Comfore. She's the political one."

Copper Vanurp tells you, "Food. Food is the basis of life. We are all food. You, you I see as a bountiful dessert, layered with chocolate and cinnamon, encrusted with rare fruits and sweetmeats in arcane patterns. You are a work of art! But cloyingly sweet ...Our purpose here? We are here to ennoble the Derethian soul! To encourage it to rise to its full potential, like a fine, full loaf of the best bread in the oven of the gods!  Tiffany is our fearless leader, the great organizer. She can tell you of our efforts here.

Tiffany Comfore tells you, "We are here, my two fine friends and I, to prepare for peace! After all the recent hubaloo, we believe that Dereth is in for a long and glorious Golden Age of Art, in which all Derethians everywhere will forsake their violent ways and instead take up the gentlest and most noble of sciences: alchemy, cooking, and fletching.  We are at the forefront of this artistic revolution, leading the way, dismantling the roadblocks, smoothing the path for the mass of humanity behind us! We live to serve!  We're gathering converts every day, every minute! If you would like to join us, you can start by trying your hand at crafting. Just take an old, disused item that is of no worth to anyone -- for instance, gromnie teeth! -- and fashion it into a beautiful and useful object of art.  Then bring it to one of us, and we will reward your efforts."

If you do fashion a useful object (and some are even hygienic), handing it to one of the artisans will reward you with experience directly into the skill it took to make the object. 

Copper Vanurp tells you, "Not bad, not bad.  Soon you will wield the carving knife with all the elegance of a true cook!"

If you turn in an item to the same person twice, too quickly, they will reprimand you! 

Wils Morrem says, "No, no, no! You must take your time! Live with the object! Dream it! Art of this magnitude should take you at least a week."
(In other words, there is a one week timer on these quests.)

During the "Pillars Made of Sand" event, these three started taking on apprentices. You can find one of their apprentices in each of the original Nexus towns, and because they're apprentices, their rewards are not as generous in experience, although they do compensate a bit by offering you a 1K note. They still have the one week timer, however.

During the "The Calm" event, the master Tonk crafters began giving lessons in tinkering. All four are located in Bluespire, and will give varying amounts of experience for your creations. They also have the one week timer.
