Dyeing -Plants, Pots, and Plans

During the Twilight's Gleaming event, plants were discovered sprouting up across the island of Dereth. Intrepid adventurers soon found that with a little skill in Alchemy and Cooking, dyes could be created from these plants, and then applied to various items. Fashion conscious folks, ever on the lookout for new styles, soon demanded the most coordinated outfits, and Alchemists and Cooks became a hot commodity.

There are various ways to obtain the supplies you need to begin your career as a costumier. You can either find the plants themselves, or you can gather little green seeds and turn them in to Terese, who may return a random plant for your troubles. In rare cases, even a plant that does not grow naturally in the wild!

Originally the plants were seasonal, but they seem to have settled into certain regions. This list also shows generally where plants now grow, more or less year-round, although time and seasons have spread their seeds, so that you might find plants anywhere on Dereth!

However, before you can begin, you'll also need the following supplies in order to be able to produce a pot of dye:

Dyeing Supplies

One or more Dye Plants
A Mortar and Pestle
One or more Neutral Balms
One or more Cooking Pots

Just like cooking, Dyeing requires that the steps be followed in a certain, precise, order. Just like nearly every other tradeskill, if you fail a step, you destroy your ingredients. During the "Slumbering Giant" event, the effects of failure were changed. If you fail the job itself, you will lower the armor level of the item, and change it to a pink or orange color, advertising your failure - to the world!

Step Skill Difficulty* Result
Use Mortar and Pestle on Plant Alchemy 150 Crushed Plant
Failure will destroy the plant
Use Neutral Balm on Crushed Plant Alchemy 200 Vial of Dye

* - Difficulty represents the comparative level of difficulty for successfully performing this step with a 50% success rate.

How badly you fail determines how badly you damage your item. This chart demonstrates the results.

Critical Failure

* AL is reduced PERMANENTLY. Items will not be lowered below 0 AL.
