Introduction to Cooking
Cooking? Why would I want to take cooking as a skill?
The cooking skill is not just for baking bread and cookies anymore. The cooking skill has evolved from its early roots to encompass many aspects of the game, and many things would not be possible without the aid of a skilled chef.
Simple foods restore stamina. The better the cook, and the food prepared, more stamina can be gained by eating the item. Food is also much cheaper to prepare, than buying potions, and in the early stages money is often scarce.
With the help of an alchemist, special oils can enhance food. A health oil applied to an apple pie imbues the pie with health. So, in consuming it, one would gain health rather than stamina. Mana oils can also be used to make the food return mana when eaten. A third special oil, victual oil, can more than double the amount of stamina, mana, or health gain of a food item; but, it requires much more skill to apply it properly.
Cooking is also used for a variety of other purposes. Preparing a Lugian sinew for use with a composite bow requires cooking, as the sinew must be properly cured before use. Dying armor and clothing requires cooking skill to ensure the armor level and color of the finished piece comes out properly.
There are so very many things cooks can offer along with the simple fun of discovering all the foods throughout Dereth. Here's hoping these pages help you!
