Introduction to Alchemy

The skilled alchemist can be as handy as a good sword or wand. Oils and potions produced by the alchemist are always in demand.

The tasks of an alchemist vary from grinding gemstones to producing high quality ingots used to forge weapons.

An alchemist is rarely seen without a mortar and pestle, used to grind gems and ore into powder to be used by mages in spellcasting. It also not uncommon to find a large stash of neutral balms to make health or mana draughts stored in a pack.

But, by far, the most useful supplies an alchemist can have are an alembic, realgar and either vitriol or gypsum. Combining infusions of these potions will create health and mana elixirs that refresh 70 of your health or mana! Combined with simple potions from any mage shop, oils can also be produced.

Oils are what really makes an alchemist. The most powerful arrows in the game can only be produced with these oils, and food that heals more per burden unit than elixers can be made using these potions and the hands of a skilled cook.

Over time, the alchemists abilities have also grown. Ingots, used to produce Atlan weapons, are made by an alchemist. Anyone foolhardy enough to attempt this delicate job without a high enough skill, will be guaranteed a low quality, inferior weapon. The composite bow as well, requires strings of the best quality to produce the best bows, and again, the skilled hands of the alchemist are needed to apply the oil.

Another task, introduced recently as well, is the ability to dye armor. The alchemist is unable to dye armor, but alchemy is required to prepare the plants and produce the dye.

As yet, no one has found a way to turn lead into pyreal, but maybe one day! We can only hope.
