Tombo`s Army
Skeletal Champion, level 75 Goes Down!
Well, those of us who manage to pass the new level 65 Chaotic Wisp before that final boss always wonder: Will this be the time?
Woot-baby! Yesterday I managed to take down the level 75 final boss in the Gauntlet!
I don't remember if it's a % based reward (I'm level 57), but I'm pretty sure I got about 75 mill, plus that Frenzy Potion, which sounds like a nice item for "special moments".
The aftermath was actually humorous, because to do the deed I had to finally do something I used to joke about in Singularity: Tombo's Dillo Herd. Since you can't do that, as you can only invoke a Dillo one at a time from an egg, I did the next best thing, and summoned the following:
Cujo (of course, my #1 level 61 Lasher)
Fafnir (fire it up Tyrant pet!)
Tombo-Doppleganger (Soul Defractor)
Lasa Tesara
Thisola Tesara
Tombo's Army
So, I work the Gauntlet with only Cujo up to the Wisp. The level 60 Skeletal Veteran is no problem anymore, but the next opponent at levl 65, the Chaotic Wisp, is deadly. For him, I summon Fafnir as well, and pop an ichor. The Wisp goes down this time taking me to zero vigor, and 1/2 health.
Now, I'm up to the final boss, that Level 75 Skeletal Champion.
I make sure to buff Cujo with Rabies and Toughen Hide, then summon my Shadow/Doppleganger. Then, I call upon the charming Tesara Sisters, and they respond. And, finally, I use my Curioscope, and it appears that has affected all my party, not just Cujo and Fafnir.
Sneaking forward, I position myself at the left-hand turn so I have a clear view of the Skeletal Champion, standing in the shadows at the other end of the hallway. I make SURE to move all my "pets" to me first, so they have a clear travel path to the Champion. I'm using my purple-text Venge War Bow, enhanced with all four mirra, and I also apply the Paper Flesh potion received from Lodrog. Taking a deep breath I let loose with Envenom! It misses, and that Champion rushes forward, with my pets moving to intercept.
The Skeletal Champion is deadly, and you must take him down as fast as you can. Also, I am only a level 57 Ranger, and am entirely outclassed. What I do recall:
The Skeletal Champion ran into a circumstance adventurers are all to often subjected to: MOBBED! I was cackling in glee seeing all five pets SURROUND him, wailing away. Hah! How's that feel bucko! I swear I saw a look of irritation pass his undead face as he took several strikes at Cujo, and the Lasher DID NOT die! (Toughen Hide, level 61. Lasher, level 61). Fafnir was belching flame, and the Tesara sisters were attacking as well. I particularly liked seeing the achy attack effects from Thisola. And, of course my doppleganger was in there wailing away with: his bare fists!
My to-hit was very poor, and repeated evades where occurring. Soon, Cujo went down, and at this point I thought the battle would degrade, each pet dying until I was forced to run. However, the Champion made another tactical mistake: He switched aggro to Fafnir, who's got 10K in health to burn. My Doppleganger and the Tesara sisters, to my surprise, where actually making a difference, though small. I was seeing hits trickle off that towering undead warrior. As he continued to attack Fafnir I made a calculated decision: I would take the seconds to not only summon Cujo again, but fully buff him. I do so, and within short order a full assault on the Champion is underway again. The Champion switches aggro back to Cujo, and starts swinging that awesome, fiery sword.
And suddenly, I realize I'm winning. The Skeletal Champion is at about 30% health! I'm still missing nearly 70% of my shots, but, I do hear a couple of special attacks hit, with bonuses: Lilitha's Vengeance, and Hunters Intuituion.
Suddenly, the Champion begins the most difficult aspect of fighting these opponents: healing, again, and again, rapidly. Chain healing just like his lesser counterpart two opponents down.
I start popping Ranger food for Vigor, and vigor heals, because I now start pumping out more special attacks hoping to counter what he's doing! All my pets are wailing away and actually making a difference! Apart from the fire DoT Fafnir inflicts, when it hits, aggro seems to be shifting at times. Cujo is still alive, and has aggro most of the time, but, it seems not always. I'm totally shocked my Doppleganger and the Tesara sisters are still alive and I see hits from them occurring.
It is then I run out of Ranger Food, and drain the last of my vigor. The Skeletal Champion is at only about 10%! However, I note HE'S out of vigor also! Woot! No more chain heals!
Like climbing a long rope, that last 10% was grueling. All I could do is continue auto-attacks. There was no time to wait for vigor regen. The tall, imposing skeleton with his fiery sword was again focussed on Cujo, leaving all others, including me, to fire away.
To my surprise Cujo lived on his second summoning. I have no idea how. During the final stages of the fight I was fortunate enough to land two critical hits, out of many misses and a few normal hits.
He dies, and I stand there in shock, with Tombo's Army loitering about.
When I exited the dungeon near the Crag excavations it was actually something of a hoot. I had about 4 other players swing by to see what the deal was. One individual, about level 23, followed me all the way over to the hill where Lahry's farm is, scoping out the pets:
Cujo (Lasher), Fafnir (Tyrant), Tombo-Doppleganger, Lasa and Thisola Tesara.
