Play Another Day

Theiss

I have stared into the face of AC2's greatest threat and returned victorious. Or at least only slightly scathed. My poor little town was buffeted with 60mph winds, intermittently knocking out power through out the day. Hesitantly, I shut of my computer and tried to keep myself busy in the cold, dark, wet, powerless world. With nothing to do alone in the dark, I decided to take in a movie (during a power outage?! Are you nuts? Short answer: yes.) I had already tried my hand at movie watching earlier in the day, only to be thwarted ¾ of the way through. How would it end?! Would James Bond survive? Anyways I had to go find out. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Or really bored. Strangely, I felt quite at home on my trek...

I emerged from my cold, dark shelter warily. The wind had died and a steady rain blanketed the valley. Was the world safe to venture into again? My first quest was to locate transportation. Huddling in my starter ski jacket, I searched the local area until I found a familiar looking Escort. How much time had passed since I had last seen such a thing? A few hours? I don't know. I pulled a key from my pack and it fit nicely into the lock. Quest completed!

I roamed the valley in search of life. Little was to be found, though. Normal buildings, lively with activity, were now dark, empty husks. The Great Power Outage had left the town in ruins...or at least in the dark. As I traveled north, more and more activity decorated the scenery. Not many adventurers roamed the streets like myself and in fact the city did not seem to have the glaring, gaudy brightness it usually did. Perhaps this would improve with the monthly updates...

Suddenly I remembered where I had been when the Great Power Outage had struck. I had been researching the newest lore on that great NPC hero named "Bond". But reality had unceremoniously disconnected me and I never discovered the end of his travels. I searched my pockets coming up with a re-admission glyph. Ah, good. I could see this Bond fellow again and finish the vault movie.

Before heading to the vault, I decided I should finish the Dinner quest. Considering the lack of vendors in this now desolate town, I wondered if the quest could be completed at all. At last I found a little Chinese Food Dungeon and worked my way to the counter to pick up a menu. Quest advanced! After a few minutes deciding, I took the menu back to the NPC. Quest advanced! "It will be twenty to twenty-five minutes," it told me. What? People were camping the Dinner quest! But then I remembered...I could complete it in the Theatre Vault.

I trudged through the rain again, still covered in my starter jacket. What kind of desert was this that I lived in with 70mph gusts and steady rain? At last I arrived at the vault and gave my re-admission glyph to the NPC. Within moments I was completing the Dinner quest. Ugh! I'd forgotten how much gold the Dinner quest required completing it this way.

At long last I soloed my way to the Theatre Vault Vestibule. The Ticket Taker Boss was a difficult creature to defeat alone but I had still had a vigor regenerating buff from the Dinner quest and damage deflection popcorn to aid me. I found a seat and was treated with an enticing story about this Bond hero. Indeed, the hero did survive to Die Another Day. I suspected these vaults would proffer more information on his travels before too long...

Though I was forced to forgo the evening playing my favorite game, I managed a little adventure of my own. I also realized that AC2 keeps me from spending too much money on normal, sunny, electricity-filled days. Obviously MS needs to provide electricity to all their subscribers or else we'll all go broke when the power goes out on those uber-windy days. Then we won't be able to keep our subscriptions up. It is just a vicious cycle downwards from there. Expect to see this in the next patch or two. I have a good sense of these things. Of course, I also predicted Bond would bite it in the end. What? I figured it was his time. Shut up! I know what the movie was called...

That's it. I'm gonna go play AC2.
