It’s the End of the World...

Khyran

I woke up that morning feeling a little out of sorts. A dream was nagging me. Something said to go to Shoushi outpost and kill a skeleton. Thinking that I'd drank too much ale, I headed into Cragstone, but not before I noticed the sky was blood red. I thought, that can't be a good sign. I know I didn't drink that much ale the night before.

In town, other people were wandering around too, dazed and confused. The smell of battle was in the air, or maybe that was the reedshark I killed the afternoon before. Anyway, several of us drifted over to the shrine of Order and activated it. Let me tell you, it felt very weird, all right, but I didn't feel any more orderly. In fact, my backpack was still a huge mess. I begged into a fellowship and we headed out.

We'd all had different dreams it turned out; some of the more powerful folks lead us out into a wasteland to kill some nasty thing that floated in the air. Someone called it an ero-bal. It spawned over my head a couple of times, and suddenly I wasn't smelling battle anymore, as I screeched like a drudge and ran for cover. Some of the fellowship pin-cushioned the ero-bal though, and apparently reaped great rewards of some kind. A few of us needed to kill the skeleton instead, so we headed out to that location.

Something to do with impending Armageddon, but I couldn't get out of the portal. By the time I got sorted out and caught up, my companions had already killed the skeleton general. Among other things, they got a nice sparkly bow off of the corpse, which they gave to me. They were kind enough to offer to help me out too.

I never thought the end of the world would be tedious, I really didn't. But such a huge crowd gathered that the skeleton, whenever he regenerated, would last about a second or so. I rarely got an arrow off. My friends wandered off and I could not blame them at all. I joined at least two other groups with nary a hope of attaining our ultimate goal when somebody got lucky and got in the killing blow. Suddenly I felt much stronger than before. It was glorious!

I celebrated by finishing the elusive Mist Opal quest and taking my revenge on as many creatures as I could find that had ever killed me. Also I made myself some nice armor. Might as well go out in style. Eventually I exhausted myself. As I slipped off to sleep I knew there was more to do before it all ended, but I didn't worry, as something told me that this life was just a foreshadowing of my life to come...
